Eye on the Rainforest Team
Location: Puerto Rico
Issue Area: Environmental Health
Puerto Rico, a series of Islands near the Caribbean, is an unincorporated territory of the United States. It boasts a rich natural landscape, including mountains, volcanic rocks, and the only tropical rainforest in the United States. Our environmentally focused team will spend the week at the Rainforest Enrichment & Sustainable Forestry Project, located on a 1,000-acre section of El Yunque ("Forest of Clouds") in the Southern Central highlands of Patillas, Puerto Rico.
The project’s mission is to research and demonstrate the economic use of rainforests through methods that do not destroy the forest ecology. Every second, 1.5 acres are lost to deforestation, removing hundreds of plant and animal species and eliminating many possible cures for life-threatening diseases. Our team will contribute to Eye on the Rainforest's mission by assisting with forestry work, road maintenance, plantation surveying, construction, nursery work, and erosion control.
We are excited to get our hands dirty and assist this organization in protecting one of the most endangered ecosystems in the world, but we can only do that with your help. Please consider supporting us on this mission, whether it be through prayer, financial assistance or adopting an eco-friendly attitude in your everyday life!
Genesis 1:26 And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
